Splash is ABC Australia’s new Educational Website that is linked to the National Curriculum. The site is for Teachers, Students and Parents. It contains articles, video, audio and games. The content is separated into three areas Early Primary (Foundation – Year 3), Upper Primary (Years 4 -6) and Secondary (Years 7 – 10). There are four subject areas to choose from English, Maths, Science and History. You can filter your searches by year level, subject and media type. There is a Parent’s area with articles from how to support your child with reading to transitioning from primary to high school. The Teacher’s area contains articles to support teachers with the Digital Age to developing your personal learning network and many more. This website is well set out and easy to use and hopes to be even better as more and more content is added over time. The YouTube clip below explains a bit more about Splash.
World Wonders Project by Google
0The World Wonders Project by Google enables you to bring many of the world’s wonders to your students via Street View technology. Student’s can choose from many famous sites from around the world and explore them virtually and be provided with 3D models, YouTube clips and text information based on the site explored. There is an education section with a pdf of lesson ideas for Primary students. A great resource to motivate or enhance your history or geography lessons in particular, but there are many more applications for this great new resource. Below are some YouTube clips previewing the World Wonders Project, demoing the site and a behind the scenes clip on how Google have adapted their Street View technology.
First Fleet
0
This website created by the ‘First Fleet Fellowship’, a historical society provides information on the First Fleet. The website covers information on the voyage, the ships of the first fleet, and a list of provisions and Livestock. The website provides basic information in an area lacking good quality content on the internet. I would truly appreciate any suggestions anyone may have of other good online resources on the First Fleet. Please leave your suggestions in a comment.

Australia Day Resources
0The Australia Day Council website has lots of resources to help you with Australia Day on January 26th. Two areas of their website have lots of useful resources for the classroom. The ‘Student Resource’ page has information on Australia, the history of Australia Day, Indigenous Australians, Australian Currency, National Anthem and the flying and use of the flag. The other page is the ‘Activiy Sheets for Kids’ page. Here you will find an abundant amount of colouring in sheets referring to state birds and fauna, state floral emblems, puzzles, find a words, and flags to name just a few. There are also links to desktop wallpapers, screensavers, ecards and an online quiz.

Dust Echoes
0Dust Echoes is a series of twelve animated dreamtime stories from Central Arnham Land. There is also MP3s, Wallpapers and Study Guides for teachers to download. I have found this resource to be a great way to introduce dreamtime stories to students. The Study Guides are great at explaining aspects of each of the dreamtime stories and suggesting relevant activities.
WhatWas there project
0The WhatWas there project makes use of Google Maps and the ability for people to upload old photos of buildings or streetscapes from the past. It provides a brief history of buildings that have long gone or still exist today. You can even look at a building or street via ‘street view’ and then it will overlay the old photograph on top, allowing you to fade the photo to reveal what it looks like today.
This tool could be useful for the Year 2 and 3 History topics of ‘The Past in the Present’ and ‘Community and Remembrance’, from the new Australian Curriculum.
More photos and information is being added all the time and maybe you have something you can contribute to this fantastic project.
There is also an iPhone app available as well.
